Garage Gym of the Week: Andrew & Ashley Cunje

  1. What’s your name? Andrew and Ashley Cunje
  2. How old are you? 32 & 29
  3. Do you have an Instagram handle or website? @s33kandd3stroy and @ashy_nicole
  4. Tell us a little bit about yourself: Avid motorcycle riders dirt, street, adventure, you name it! Workout to get faster on the bike!
  5. How would you describe your training style? Crossfit
  6. How would you describe your fitness/strength level, currently? Above Average
  7. What are your fitness/strength goals? Lose the fat, keep healthy, more stamina for life and off-road riding!
  8. Describe your garage gym. Our gym is almost 100% exclusively fringe sport! We have a FS Power Rack with Wall Ball Target & accessories (amazing impossible to beat deal! came with the landmine, bar holder, pull-up bar, dip station, and folds!?!), one fit wonder bumper plates, bowflex adjustable bench, a FS bomba bar, a beater bar, free weights (collected over the years), kettlebells (FS), concept 2 model d rower, FS wall balls, RX jump ropes, bear complex weight belts, and all of this sits on top of tractor supply store horse stall mats! It's actually a "basement gym" but once you all release some additional brackets for the fold-able rig, its going to move outside and inside depending on the seasons!
  9. Who works out in your garage gym? Me, my wife (w/ the baby in her belly!), our cousin (roomate), our neighbor, and my co-workers!
  10. Why did you build a garage gym? We built it with function and cost in mind. Originally members at Ashburn Crossfit, we decided to leave the gym to save some cash! $300 a month for a couple ends up being a lot of money! After about a year and a half as members we realized that the $5400 dollars in membership fees would have gone a lot further if we had just opened our own in-home box! We learned a lot at Ashburn and gained a lot of new friends, but the convenience and cost savings just make sense.
  11. What’s your favorite piece of equipment in your garage? The Fringe Sport Power Rack setup! it came with everyyyything! For the price, don't shy away from the 2x2 uprights...it has everything you could need (except an extra set of brackets : P)
  12. What piece of equipment was a waste? Sandy-Land-Corpus instructional dvds! ; ) Nothing otherwise!
  13. What’s the next piece of equipment you’re going to get? A GHD, Bands, Rings w/ straps, more bumper plates (45s and 15s), boxes (interested in those foam ones), and speed ropes!
  14. Any dream piece of equipment? A rack that can be moved inside and outside for the seasons that comes with more than one set of brackets? Maybe a plate/bar storage system.
  15. How did you build your garage gym? (All at once, craigslist over a few years, etc.) Over time, but we did do one big purchase for the rig, rower, some extra plates, and a second bar.
  16. Do you have any tips for anyone else looking to build a garage gym? Go with fringe sport, get the foldable Power Rack with accessories, get some horse stall mats from tractor supply store and your more than half way there! Nothing better than the ability to hit the weights 5-6 times a week right at your house!
