There are a lot of benefits to bumper plates. They bounce (duh), they are standard width, and they position the bar at the correct height for the pull off the ground for deads, snatches, and cleans.
But sometimes an athlete can't execute the lifts competently at 55 or 65 pounds (35lb or 45lb bar + two 10 pound bumpers). This happens a lot with trainees for the Olympic Lifts.
So what's the solution?
An aluminum training bar and technique plates. The aluminum bar weighs 15 pounds and the tech plates drop the total weight of the bar + plates to 25 pounds or 35 pounds depending on the tech plates you choose, and the bar is still positioned at the correct height for the first pull.
If you're trying to work on technique, or you are training people who need a lot of technique work, this bar and plate combo is essential.
We've put together a package deal on these.
Technique Plates (1 Pair): Stronger polyurethane material that doesn't bend and waffle. No steel insert to come loose and break out. Weight labeled in pounds and kilogram conversions on both sides of plate. Allows new lifters to keep the bar at the proper height.
15lb Training Olympic Bar: This is a perfect bar for training novice lifters, children, and teens. It is designed for teaching the lifts and is constructed of aluminum with brash bushings and is durable, but is not designed to be dropped. It's also wide enough to teach the snatch (Olympic competition bars are only a bit longer in the collar-to-collar measurements).
SuperStrap Barbell Collar (1 Pair): Adjustable strap fits virtually all barbells- from Olympic barbells to strongman barbells, and beyond! Also works as a wrist wrap in a pinch..
