Bumper plates come in a few standard sizes, and are generally sold in pounds or kilograms. Troy VTX economy bumpers are sold by the pound. Here is a chart with rough pound and kilogram weights:
|Bumper Weight||Best Weight For:|
|10 lbs ~ 5 kg||Great for teaching or learning Olympic lifts|
|15 lbs ~ 7 kg||Same uses as the 10s, but this offers greater durability at only a slightly heavier weight|
|25 lbs ~ 11 kg||A very popular weight as they are very durable and throwing these on an Oly bar gives you 95 pounds (Fran Rx)|
|35 lbs ~ 16 kg||A great size for adding more weight on the bar|
|45 lbs ~ 20 kg||The most popular size for gyms - 45's really let you load up your bar and make some serious strength gains|
A bumper plate is a weight plate for Olympic bars that is made almost entirely of rubber (with a steel or brass collar in the middle that accepts an Olympic bar).
The "end state" of the Olympic lifts is overhead or at the shoulder. Many lifters drop the weights from overhead. Since bumper plates are almost entirely rubber, being dumped from the shoulder or overhead will not damage the weights, bar, floor, bystanders, the lifter, etc...
Bumper plates are also great for garage gym use- the rubber construction is much quieter than traditional metal construction.
They life you want to invest in things that will last you a very long time even a life time these bumper plates are that type of investment great quality and the weight is spot on the smell eventually goes away anyway invest in these and a good barbell and that's really all you need for superb @ home workouts
I purchased 2000 lbs. of VTX for my CrossFit gym back in 2013 and this set has been through an estimated 6000 workouts with thousands of athletes of all different ability levels. We are the type of box that likes to drop plates and throw weight around. We are heavy into Olympic style weightlifting. We always program ****** and clean and **** into our strength portion and metabolic conditioning portion of our workouts equally. I have to say that I am completely impressed with the amount of abuse this set has taken over the years. Just recently have I started to get cracking plates and steel inserts dislodging. But that's only in a few of the plates. Most of them look like they're ready for another 6000 plus workouts. If you're thinking about buying these. You cannot go wrong. The greasy complaint is valid but it goes away after wiping it with a rag and putting the plates through a few training sessions. The 10# plates which usually taco at other facilities, we don't experience that problem at our gym. We never have had an issue with dropping the 10# plates from overhead and them breaking on us. So you get a lot of value for the money for sure. I'm about to reload on another 1-2000 lbs. of plates and I'm seriously considering VTX again, how can I not!???

Getting the job done. We will be getting some more soon.
Plates smell a bit, but im sure you can wash it off or something. Other than that, these are good plates to have at home.
