2. The Octopus aka the Apex Predator of the Sea

You’re thinking, “What?!?! That can’t be. I never heard Joe Rogan tell Jamie to pull that up.”

It’s true.

Although octopuses are known for mostly subsisting on a diet of shrimp, crabs, lobsters, and other shellfish by using their beaks to drill into the shelled prey, they have been caught doing far more dastardly deeds. To start, all octopuses are venomous. And this includes cuttlefish!

Octopuses also have been known to kill sharks.

Jaws got nothin' on an octopus.

Yeah, that's right.

If sharks are commonly viewed as the most fearsome predator of the sea, and an octopus kills a shark, then I think it's safe to say, there's a new sheriff in town.

In fact, there are several reports of octopuses even attacking scuba divers when they feel threatened or get spooked (usually by flash photography or pokes). Check out this video of a Giant Pacific Octopus engulfing a man off Vancouver Island. You may think it’s just a hug, but engulfing plays a key part in how these creatures eat their prey.

So be terrified of tentacles the next time you feel something slimy slide up against you in the water, it could be an octopus looking for a snack... 😲
