The BOB turns your rack into a Smith machine, so the bar runs on a fixed path with a catch point waiting underneath it. Set your unrack height and your safety height with mag pins, then chase the last rep you would never attempt alone. Squats, bench, rows and hip thrusts all become sets you can take to failure instead of sets you cut short because nobody is standing behind you.

Most Smith machines hand you a fixed bar with a diameter you did not choose and a starting weight you cannot change. The BOB clamps onto the barbell you already own, so the knurl under your hands is the one you train with every day. Swapping the bar in and out takes about a minute and needs no tools, and the bar starts lower than almost any rack-mounted Smith, which is what makes hip thrusts, rows and deadlifts actually work on it.
