Meet Tina Wilson and Her "Appropriate" Gym Name!
What’s Your Name?
Tina Wilson
Do you have a name for your gym?
Usually Sore Gym
Tell us a little about yourself - what you do when you aren’t lifting, what are your other hobbies, etc.
When I'm not lifting I'm having a blast changing the lives of ambitious teenagers at Forge Extraordinary.
I love spending time with my sweet husband and grown kids. I’m a voracious reader of non-fiction and a die-hard animal lover/rescuer. I have 2 dogs, a cat, and 2 box turtles.
What made you decide to create the best garage gym ever?
Before Covid, I was a total gym rat- going to my local gym practically every day. I had ZERO equipment of my own. Even if I did, I wouldn’t use it because I preferred going to the gym and working out with friends. When Covid shut everything down, I changed my attitude towards solo/ at-home workouts. I thought it’d be temporary, so at first, I didn’t plan to build a home gym. I bought whatever I could get my hands on just to hold me over until gyms re-opened. But as time went on, I started to enjoy working out at home. I loved having a personal set-up. I loved playing my own music. I loved doing my own thing and it was then that UsuallySore Gym was born. It’s now my “main” gym.
What gear do you have in your gym?
I have a squat rack, barbells, ez curl bar, dumbbells, assault bike, rower, ski erg, sled, slam ropes, kettlebells, box jump, parallettes, TRX straps, hip thruster, med ball, weight vest, and other fun accessories.
When did you become part of the Fringe Fam? What was your first Fringe purchase?
I became a loyal Fringe customer during Covid when nothing was available anywhere. I loved that Fringe offered free shipping and always kept the site updated on availability. My first purchase was the pizza bumper plates! They were the only bumper plates I could find at the time. I loved them so much I got the donuts, too :)
What’s your favorite gear that you use all the time?
The women’s Wonder bar. I had never heard of Fringe Sport before Covid and again, it came down to availability. I thought I was “settling” but I have been so impressed over and over with every single purchase on quality and service that I go to Fringe first now for everything.
What gear do you never use?
A 75lb kettlebell that is shaped like a grenade. I love it because it’s so badass but I rarely toss it around. Hmm..that’s going to change. 50 swings post-workout sounds good.
What was your best gear purchase?
My best purchase was Fringe’s milspec bumper plates. I LOVE mine. They’re so high quality and durable. Even the 10’s don’t bend or flimsy out.
What gear purchase do you wish you would have said “NO” to?
NONE. I love it all.
What’s your favorite workout?
It changes. I love olympic lifting which is full body and what I do the most. Sometimes I like conditioning. My favorite body part to work is shoulders.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Comparison is the thief of joy. Don’t compare yourself to others. You are enough because you are. Take inspired action every day and just do YOU!
What advice would you give to newbie garage gymmers?
Enjoy the process of adding one new toy at a time. Make it yours- give it a name. Hang flags that mean something to you. Working out at home/ alone can sometimes beg for motivation. Find a way to celebrate your at-home PRs. I have superhero capes and swag chains that I break out after every PR. (Does Fringe sell gongs?) Have fun building your home gym- I sure have!
