Most lifters who are serious about barbell training already have a rack they love. The Cloverfield is not a replacement for that rack. It's what goes next to it.
The typical functional trainer is designed to be the centerpiece of a gym. It has a large footprint, a fixed configuration, and a base plate that blocks floor space and limits movement options. That works fine if cables are your primary training focus. If your primary focus is barbell training and you want a dedicated cable station that stays out of the way, it's the wrong tool.
The Cloverfield is built differently. It's self-supporting with no foot plate on the floor, so you can set it up wherever it fits and move freely around it without stepping over anything. The 2:1 pulley ratio gives you enough resistance range to train your entire body: lat pulldowns, rows, cable squats, curls, tricep pushdowns, face pulls, and more. Mount the Mammoth Belt Squat directly to the unit and you have a belt squat station without adding another footprint to your gym. Add the dip bar and you have a pressing option as well.
Where the Cloverfield goes further is the expansion path. Because it's built on the same 3x3 system as Fringe Sport's rack lineup, adding two uprights and a crossmember from the expansion kit turns it into a functional squat stand. A cable tower that becomes a squat rack when you need one.
The Gatling Seat pairs directly with the Cloverfield, adding 28 pad positions for chest-supported rows, incline curls, flyes, lat pulldowns, Nordic curls, and more. If you want a complete cable training system, that's the combination.
