Being that I'm not the strongest squatter (130kg max), I didn't need to bolt the unit down. My extra set of plates loaded onto the plate storage pegs installed in the back of the unit, keeps it from moving
As a weightlifter it allows for more drills to be available through the use of the safety arms: bottom up squats, jerk recoveries, etc
Plus, of course, the pullup bar :)
What I recently discovered that I found a pleasant bonus is that the Westside spacing of the holes for bench press setup comes in handy if you are working with a youth athlete who is shorter in stature. That much tighter spacing allows you to get the perfect height for them to squat
I highly recommend this particular unit for anyone who needs to step up their home gym
First off, I have to commend Fringe on their customer service, but not on their packing. When I received the rack, it was missing an entire upright. The box was very damaged and had a ton of tape on one side, so I'm guessing it fell out in the shipping process. But the box was so thin and the metal in the box was packed so loosely, I'm not surprised at this. But to Fringesport's credit, they responded promptly when I contacted them, shipped the missing piece quickly, and gave me a discount. So A+ on owning the mistake, but I would prefer the mistake wasn't made at all. They need heavier boxes with more packing material to hold the items securely.
The rack is OK. There are little things that aren't quite as good as the American made racks I have. The powdercoat isn't as good and came scratched in places, the steel doesn't feel quite as heavy even though it is supposed to be the same gauge, and the UHMW on the J-cups is softer and is already showing wear that my other racks (which are older) aren't. All that being said, the rack is very solid and I have no doubt will support any amount a normal person would squat on it. Bolted down, it's super stable for pullups. So the question is just whether you are willing to accept a few QC irregularities that you probably won't find in a U.S. made rack (at least from a major company starting with an "R") but at a lower price. I don't regret purchasing it, all things considered, and expect to get a lot of good years of use from it.
Can you squat off of both sides of this unit and can you elect to have this shipped with two 1 1/4" pullup bars and no 2" fat bar?
Unfortunately, we only have them with one of either style of pullup bar and they can't be substituted.
