Fringe Fam Member-Taylor Woods- King of NO EXCUSES!

Fringe Sport Garage Gym Feature Taylor Woods

What’s Your Name?

Taylor Woods

Do you have a name for your gym?

No Excuses

Tell us a little about yourself - what you do when you aren’t lifting, what are your other hobbies, etc.

Currently a Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician. I enjoy taking my dog (Angel) on walks with my wife (Shawna). I’m usually either working, working out, or trying to learn new skills. Some of my recent favorites are data analytics, finance, and real estate. Always growing!

What made you decide to create the best garage gym ever?

Decided I wanted the freedom to workout anytime. I also hate going to the gym with a solid plan and having to wait for equipment to free up. Did a cost comparison on how much equipment would cost compared to a gym membership and realized a home gym will pay for itself in only a few years. The freedom it provides is priceless but was also considered in the decision. I purchased most of my equipment right before the COVID lockdown which was a lucky move. I had multiple friends stopping by so they could get a good lift in.

What’s your favorite gear that you use all the time?

The Garage Series Squat Rack and Bomba V2 barbell. The squat rack is extremely sturdy without taking up too much room. The Bomba V2 barbell is the only barbell I need. Works for regular lifts like bench, squat, and deadlift; it also has the perfect amount of spin for when I do cleans.

What gear do you never use?

I never use the ab wheel…it just sits in the corner and collects dust.

What was your best gear purchase?

My best purchase was the barbell, bumper plate, and squat rack package from Fringe Sport.

What gear purchase do you wish you would have said “NO” to?

I don’t have one!

What’s your favorite workout?

My favorite workout is power cleans. They suck so good. I really like the days when I have power cleans, deadlifts, accessory training, and end it all with intervals on the RowErg.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

Suck less!

Instructors were constantly using this phrase throughout my military training. At the time, I didn’t really understand the full meaning behind it. You will never be as good as you can be at anything; you can always improve. How? Take steps to suck a little less every day.

What advice would you give to newbie garage gymmers?

Get yourself a good squat rack, barbell, bumper plates, and adjustable bench. Start adding additional things beyond this that align with your fitness goals. Don’t compare yourself to other people; just compare yourself to who you were yesterday and make it a goal to always do better. Proper form and time under tension beats trying to go too heavy every day!
