Physiotherapy is one of the allied health professions which treats Issues mostly of musculoskeletal, cardiopulmonary and neurological origins by using scientifically based methods. The goal of physical therapy used to improve a patient's physical functions through examination, diagnoses, intervention, rehabilitation, and education.  people who practice physiotherapy are quite apparently called physiotherapist. There are numerous methods physiotherapy uses to help patients,  including kinesiology,  electrotherapy,  joint mobilization, and various exercises.

Physiotherapy, Chiropractic, and Massage

People often mix those three, although their effects are quite different, or better say on a different scale. Physiotherapy includes a wide array of practices,  including massage and chiropractic,  but also there are rehabilitative exercises, acupuncture, and manual therapy. On the other hand, chiropractic’s main method is spinal manipulation in order to treat pain. And massage treats soft tissue restoring function and relieving pain. Physiotherapy can take care of patients in every phase of healing,  from preventive to the recovery phase. Sometimes it supports some other treatments,  but there are cases when it is a stand-alone option.  there are patients who start with physiotherapy by the recommendation of their doctors,  but most people look for therapy themselves at the first sign of a health issue. The biggest merit of physiotherapy is that it looks at the entire body as a whole instead of focusing only on the pain area. Improving the whole body condition will also improve the state of the troubled area. The role of a psychotherapist, like in Aevum Physiotherapy, in recovery, is very important, and good communication between the therapist and the patient is the core of every successful therapy.

Stages of Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy consists of several different stages. Depending on the type of health issue,  the methods used in those stages may differ,  but the stages themselves are always the same. The first thing a patient will receive when coming to physical therapy is a physical exam and evaluation. This includes a health history and some testing processes,  such as evaluation of posture movement and flexibility,  and checking the muscle and joint dexterity. After the examination,  a patient will receive a diagnosis,  prediction,  care plan and therapy goals for short and long-time period. Based on the therapist’s evaluation and diagnosis,  the patient will undergo physical therapy treatment and eventually intervention. After the treatment, the patient will receive a set of exercises and other self-management measures, in order to keep their health in check.

There is a wide variety of physiotherapy types,  depending on the health condition they need to treat. The most common type is orthopedic physical therapy,  which treats musculoskeletal injuries,  including muscle and bone tissue,  ligaments, tendons, and fascias. There is also geriatric physical therapy which can help elderly patients restore mobility and reduce pain.  Neurological physical therapy is there for people suffering from neurological disorders and conditions,  by increasing limb dexterity,  treating paralysis and reducing muscle atrophy.  cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation help people increase physical endurance and stamina,  while pediatric physical therapy helps in treating conditions that usually affect infants,  children, and adolescents. There are also wound care therapy,  vestibular therapy (balance),  decongestive therapy,  and pelvic floor rehabilitation.  Except for physical manipulation,  treatments might involve ultrasound, phonophoresis,  electrical stimulation, heat, and light therapy.  The most appropriate treatment is on a therapist to decide.

Conclusion

Physiotherapy is a crucial factor in enhancing the functionality of one’s body,  and many people use it to prevent various health issues instead of recovery only. The importance of physiotherapy in treating chronic pain and injuries cannot be overstated. It involves various methods of treatments,  depending on the troubled area,  but physiotherapy generally treats the body as an entity and focuses on overall improvement.
